We are excited to introduce the 2017 BNID Summer Intern Team! These four ambitious individuals will be working over the course of this summer to expand and improve BNID’s involvement with the Boston area international development community.

Millicent Knopp is an aspiring young professional who is passionate about women’s issues international development. Originally from Kansas City, Kansas, Millie relocated to the Boston area this past Fall to pursue her Master’s Degree in Sustainable International Development at The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. After having completed her first year in the program she is gearing up to begin her second-year practicum where she will travel to Southern Africa to work alongside local NGO’s focusing on advocacy and capacity building around pertinent women’s rights issues. She looks forward to joining BNID for the Summer to learn, lead, and get further acquainted with the international development community in the Boston area. In her free time Millie enjoys camping, learning Spanish, traveling, and spending time with her pet rabbit, Mr. Bojangles

Shawn Luo is a sophomore at Wellesley College majoring in International Relations-Economics with a minor in Mathematics. She is especially interested in education and its role in economic development and poverty alleviation. After growing up abroad in Shanghai and Taipei and traveling the world, she is excited to explore the various opportunities related to international development here in Boston.


Kayla Arroyave is a rising senior at

Boston College and is originally from Naperville, Illinois which is a suburb of Chicago. In pursuit of a History and International studies double major and a Hispanic studies minor, her goal is to attend law school after her undergraduate studies. This summer she will be working at in immigration law firm which is one of her future interests along with international law. Currently Kayla is studying abroad in Santiago, Chile with the hopes of perfecting her Spanish and developing a better understanding of Latin American history and politics. Beyond academics, Kayla loves hiking, playing soccer, or relaxing with book and a cup of coffee. She is looking forward to returning to Boston and working on the BNID Summer Intern Team!

Tenzin Thargay is a rising senior in the Honors College at UMass Amherst pursuing a dual degree in political science and Chinese. He just finished studying abroad in Taipei, Taiwan at National Taiwan University’s International Chinese Language Program as a David L. Boren Scholar. As a first-generation Tibetan-American, Tenzin’s preservation and advocacy of his Tibetan heritage has played a guiding role in pursuing a career in government which led to a Council of American Ambassadors Fellowship with the U.S. Department of State in 2016. When not thinking about politics, you can find Tenzin on the tennis court or re-watching Big Little Lies.
